cfg80211_rx_assoc_resp() initialises the status and response-IE fields
of cfg80211_connect_resp_params from the management frame before
proving that the frame is long enough for those offsets. S1G and
regular association responses also have different IE offsets, but the
S1G path only patched resp_ie after the unsafe initialiser had already
run.
Defer resp_ie, resp_ie_len, and status to after the link-iteration
loop. Use a bool to remember whether the frame is S1G, then validate
the appropriate minimum length and set all three fields in a single
if/else block. Funnel short-frame and SME-reject cleanup through a
shared free_bss label for the abandon paths.

cfg80211_rx_mlme_mgmt() and cfg80211_tx_mlme_mgmt() call tracepoints
before rejecting frames shorter than the frame-control field. After
that, they only require len >= 2 before dispatching into subtype
handlers that assume their fixed fields are present.
The frames that trip this are not shorter than 2 bytes; they are short
relative to their subtype. mwifiex is a concrete in-tree example on the
length side: mwifiex_process_mgmt_packet() only requires a 4-address
ieee80211_hdr plus the 2-byte firmware length prefix before handing the
frame to cfg80211_rx_mlme_mgmt(). After stripping the length prefix and
removing addr4, pkt_len can be exactly 24: a bare 3-address management
header with no reason-code body. The existing WARN_ON(len < 2) does not
fire on such a frame, and cfg80211_process_deauth() then reads
u.deauth.reason_code as a two-byte access starting at offset 24,
immediately past the 24-byte buffer.
Add a frame-control length gate, then validate each subtype's minimum
frame size in an if/else-if chain that mirrors the dispatch logic. Trace
only after the frame is known to be well-formed.
Side effects of this change:
- The WARN_ON(len < 2) is dropped. It only guarded the frame_control
read, never the subtype fixed fields, and it does not fire on the
frames that actually trigger the out-of-bounds read (which are >= 2).
The len >= 2 check is kept as the guard before dereferencing
frame_control, but without the warning: these are exported callbacks
and a malformed frame from a driver should be dropped silently rather
than backtraced.
- cfg80211_tx_mlme_mgmt() previously routed every non-deauth subtype
through disassociation handling; it now silently ignores unrecognised
subtypes.

We check that extended MLD capabilities and operations are

Add a new wdev-only interface type NL80211_IFTYPE_PD to support
Proximity Detection (PD) operations such as PASN and peer measurement
operations. This interface type operates without a netdev, similar to
P2P_DEVICE and NAN interfaces.
Implement support across cfg80211 and mac80211 layers with PD-specific
checks gated by the NL80211_EXT_FEATURE_SECURE_RTT feature flag,
management frame registration and transmission capabilities, and proper
channel context handling where PD interfaces are excluded from bandwidth
calculations. Update mac80211 to recognize the new interface type in the
relevant paths for this management-only interface.
PD discovery can be performed on any available interface, such as
NL80211_IFTYPE_STATION.
If PD/PMSR uses the MAC address of an existing interface type, such as
NL80211_IFTYPE_STATION, then pairing and measurement shall use that
same interface. If PD/PMSR uses a different MAC address, such as a
random MAC address, then pairing and measurement can be performed on a
new NL80211_IFTYPE_PD interface created with that random MAC address.

In SME-in-driver mode, the driver handles the entire (re)association
exchange. Userspace (e.g., wpa_supplicant) currently has no explicit
indication of whether the (re)association exchange was encrypted,
making it difficult to distinguish EPP (Enhanced Privacy Protection,
IEEE 802.11bi) associations from non-EPP associations.
When (Re)Association frame encryption is used, the (Re)Association
Response frame must contain a Key Delivery element as specified in
IEEE P802.11bi/D4.0, Table 9-65. Userspace must process this element
only when the (Re)Association Response frame is actually encrypted.
Processing it unconditionally for unencrypted frames leads to incorrect
behavior. Without an explicit indication from the driver, userspace
cannot determine whether encryption was used and whether the Key
Delivery element is valid.
Add a new flag attribute NL80211_ATTR_ASSOC_ENCRYPTED and a
corresponding field "assoc_encrypted" in cfg80211_connect_resp_params
to indicate that both the (Re)Association Request and Response frames
are transmitted encrypted over the air.
For mac80211-based drivers, extend cfg80211_rx_assoc_resp_data with
the assoc_encrypted field as well, which is then propagated to
cfg80211_connect_resp_params.
Pass the flag to userspace via NL80211_CMD_CONNECT event.

Currently we have this ability for AP and GO. But it is now needed also for
NAN_DATA mode - as per Wi-Fi Aware (TM) 4.0 specification 6.2.5:
"If a NAN Device receives a unicast NAN Data frame destined for it, but
with A1 address and A2 address that are not assigned to the NDP, it shall
discard the frame, and should send a Data Path Termination NAF to the
frame transmitter"
To allow this, change NL80211_CMD_UNEXPECTED_FRAME to support also
NAN_DATA, so drivers can report such cases and the user space can act
accordingly.

If an interface is set down or, per the previous patch, changes
type, radar detection for it should be cancelled. This is done
for AP mode in mac80211 (somewhat needlessly, since cfg80211 can
do it, but didn't until now), but wasn't handled for mesh, so if
radar detection was started and then the interface set down or
its type switched (the latter sometimes happning in the hwsim
test 'mesh_peer_connected_dfs'), radar detection would be around
with the interface unknown to the driver, later leading to some
warnings around chanctx usage.

driver
In the case of SME-in-driver, the driver can internally choose to
update the links based on the AP MLD recommendation and do link
reconfiguration negotiation with AP MLD.
(e.g., After the driver processing the BSS Transition Management request
frame received from the AP MLD with Neighbor Report containing
Multi-Link element with recommended links information chooses to do link
reconfiguration negotiation with AP MLD).
To support this, extend cfg80211_mlo_reconf_add_done() and
NL80211_CMD_ASSOC_MLO_RECONF to indicate added links information for
driver-initiated link reconfiguration requests. For removed links,
the driver indicates links information using the
NL80211_CMD_LINKS_REMOVED event for driver-initiated cases, the same as
supplicant initiated cases.
For the driver-initiated case, cfg80211 will receive link
reconfiguration result asynchronously from driver so holding BSSes of
the accepted add links is needed in the event path. Also, no need of
unhold call for the rejected add link BSSes since there was no hold call
happened previously.
Once the supplicant receives the NL80211_CMD_ASSOC_MLO_RECONF event,
it needs to process the information about newly added links and install
per-link group keys (e.g., GTK/IGTK/BIGTK etc.).
In case of the SME-in-driver, using a vendor interface etc. to notify
the supplicant to initiate a link reconfiguration request and then
supplicant sending command to the cfg80211 can lead to race conditions.
The correct design to avoid this is that the driver indicates the
cfg80211 directly with the results of the link reconfiguration
negotiation.

Currently, when the driver attempts to connect to an AP MLD with multiple
APs, the cfg80211_mlme_check_mlo_compat() function requires the Medium
Synchronization Delay values from different APs of the same AP MLD to be
equal, which may result in connection failures.
This is because when the driver receives a multi-link probe response from
an AP MLD with multiple APs, cfg80211 updates the Elements for each AP
based on the multi-link probe response. If the Medium Synchronization Delay
is set in the multi-link probe response, the Elements for each AP belonging
to the same AP MLD will have the Medium Synchronization Delay set
simultaneously. If non-multi-link probe responses are received from
different APs of the same MLD AP, cfg80211 will still update the Elements
based on the non-multi-link probe response. Since the non-multi-link probe
response does not set the Medium Synchronization Delay
(IEEE 802.11be-2024-35.3.4.4), if the Elements from a non-multi-link probe
response overwrite those from a multi-link probe response that has set the
Medium Synchronization Delay, the Medium Synchronization Delay values for
APs belonging to the same AP MLD will not be equal. This discrepancy causes
the cfg80211_mlme_check_mlo_compat() function to fail, leading to
connection failures. Commit ccb964b4ab16
("wifi: cfg80211: validate MLO connections better") did not take this into
account.

cfg80211_bss is not reset to 0 after the assoc fail, and then the
__cfg80211_unlink_bss() will not be called for the cfg80211_bss by
__cfg80211_bss_expire().
Then the AP always looks exist even the AP is shutdown or reconfigured
to another type, then it will lead error while connecting it again.
The detail info are as below.
When connect with muti-links AP, cfg80211_hold_bss() is called by
cfg80211_mlme_assoc() for each cfg80211_bss of all the links. When
assoc response from AP is not success(such as status_code==1), the
ieee80211_link_data of non-primary link(sdata->link[link_id]) is NULL
because ieee80211_assoc_success()->ieee80211_vif_update_links() is
not called for the links.
Then struct cfg80211_rx_assoc_resp resp in cfg80211_rx_assoc_resp() and
struct cfg80211_connect_resp_params cr in __cfg80211_connect_result()
will only have the data of the primary link, and finally function
cfg80211_connect_result_release_bsses() only call cfg80211_unhold_bss()
for the primary link. Then cfg80211_bss of the other links will never free
because its hold is always > 0 now.
Hence assign value for the bss and status from assoc_data since it is
valid for this case. Also assign value of addr from assoc_data when the
link is NULL because the addrs of assoc_data and link both represent the
local link addr and they are same value for success connection.

Since we're now protecting everything with the wiphy mutex
(and were really using it for almost everything before),
there's no longer any real reason to have a separate wdev
mutex. It may feel better, but really has no value.

If the AP uses our own address as its MLD address or BSSID, then
clearly something's wrong. Reject such connections so we don't
try and fail later.

Add support to use a random local address in authentication and
deauthentication frames sent to unassociated peer when the driver
supports.
The driver needs to configure receive behavior to accept frames with
random transmit address specified in TX path authentication frames
during the time of the frame exchange is pending and such frames need to
be acknowledged similarly to frames sent to the local permanent address
when this random address functionality is used.
This capability allows use of randomized transmit address for PASN
authentication frames to improve privacy of WLAN clients.

Currently action frames TX only with ML address as A3(BSSID) are
allowed in an ML AP, but TX for a non-ML Station can happen in any
link of an ML BSS with link BSS address as A3.
In case of an MLD, if User-space has provided a valid link_id in
action frame TX request, allow transmission of the frame in that link.

For assoc and connect result APIs, support reporting
failed links; they should still come with the BSS
pointer in the case of assoc, so they're released
correctly. In the case of connect result, this is
optional.

It might seem a bit pointless to do a multi-link operation
connection with just a single link, but this is already a
big change, so for now, limit MLO connections to a single
link.
Extending that to multiple links will require
* work on parsing the multi-link element with STA profile
properly, including element fragmentation;
* checking the per-link status in the multi-link element
* implementing logic to have active/inactive links to let
drivers decide which links should be active;
* implementing multicast RX deduplication;
* and likely more.
For now this is still useful since it lets us do multi-link
connections for the purposes of testing APIs and the higher
layers such as wpa_supplicant.

For MLO, we need the ability to report back multiple BSS
structures to release, as well as the AP MLD address (if
attempting to make an MLO connection).
Unify cfg80211_assoc_timeout() and cfg80211_abandon_assoc()
into a new cfg80211_assoc_failure() that gets a structure
parameter with the necessary data.

The race described by the comment in mac80211 hasn't existed
since the locking rework to use the same lock and for MLO we
need to pass the AP MLD address, so just pass the BSSID or
AP MLD address instead of the BSS struct pointer, and adjust
all the code accordingly.

The current check only worked for AP mode, but we can do
radar detection in mesh as well (for example). We could
try to check this using wdev_chandef(), but we also don't
really care since the chandef is passed in and we have no
need to use it anymore (since we added the argument in
commit d2859df5e7f0 ("cfg80211/mac80211: DFS setup chandef
for cac event")).

The MLO links used for connection with an MLD AP are decided by the
driver in case of SME offloaded to driver.
Add support for the drivers to indicate the information of links used
for MLO connection in connect and roam callbacks, update the connected
links information in wdev from connect/roam result sent by driver.
Also, send the connected links information to userspace.
Add a netlink flag attribute to indicate that userspace supports
handling of MLO connection. Drivers must not do MLO connection when this
flag is not set. This is to maintain backwards compatibility with older
supplicant versions which doesn't have support for MLO connection.

For authentication, we need the BSS, the link_id and the AP
MLD address to create the link and station, (for now) the
driver assigns a link address and sends the frame, the MLD
address needs to be the address of the interface.
For association, pass the list of BSSes that were selected
for the MLO connection, along with extra per-STA profile
elements, the AP MLD address and the link ID on which the
association request should be sent.
Note that for now we don't have a proper way to pass the link
address(es) and so the driver/mac80211 will select one, but
depending on how that selection works it means that assoc w/o
auth data still being around (mac80211 implementation detail)
the association won't necessarily work - so this will need to
be extended in the future to sort out the link addressing.
