When a blk_crypto_key starts being used or is evicted, fs/crypto/ calls
fscrypt_get_devices() to get the filesystem's list of block devices,
then iterates over them and calls blk_crypto_config_supported(),
blk_crypto_start_using_key(), or blk_crypto_evict_key() on each one.
Currently, the block device pointers are placed in a dynamically
allocated array. This dynamic allocation is problematic because:
- It can fail, especially at the fscrypt_destroy_inline_crypt_key() call
site when it's invoked for inode eviction under direct reclaim.
- fscrypt_destroy_inline_crypt_key() doesn't handle the failure. It
just zeroizes and frees the blk_crypto_key without calling
blk_crypto_evict_key(). That causes a use-after-free.
For now, let's fix this in the straightforward and easily-backportable
way by switching to an on-stack array. Currently the fscrypt
multi-device functionality is used only by f2fs, which has a hardcoded
limit of 8 block devices. An on-stack array works fine for that.
(Of course, this solution won't scale up to large number of block
devices. For that we'd need a different solution, like moving the block
device iteration into the filesystem. Or in the case of btrfs, which
will only support blk-crypto-fallback, we should make it just call
blk-crypto-fallback directly, so the block devices won't be needed.)

F2FS records image errors and checkpoint-stop reasons through the same
s_error_work worker. The ordinary f2fs_handle_error() path only updates
s_errors, but the worker still calls fserror_report_shutdown()
unconditionally after committing the superblock.
As a result, a metadata corruption report can be followed by a synthetic
FAN_FS_ERROR event with ESHUTDOWN and an invalid superblock file handle,
even though no stop reason was recorded.
Track whether save_stop_reason() actually changed the stop_reason array
and only report the shutdown fserror for that case. Pure s_errors updates
still commit the superblock, but no longer generate a false shutdown event.

The following steps will change previous value of reserve_{blocks,node},
this dones not match the original intention.
1.mount -t f2fs -o reserve_root=8192 imgfile test_mount/
F2FS-fs (loop56): Mounted with checkpoint version = 1b69f8c7
mount info:
/dev/block/loop56 on /data/test_mount type f2fs (xxx,reserve_root=8192,reserve_node=0,resuid=0,resgid=0,xxx)
2.mount -t f2fs -o remount,reserve_root=4096 /data/test_mount
F2FS-fs (loop56): Preserve previous reserve_root=8192
check mount info: reserve_root change to 4096
/dev/block/loop56 on /data/test_mount type f2fs (xxx,reserve_root=4096,reserve_node=0,resuid=0,resgid=0,xxx)
Prior to commit d18535132523 ("f2fs: separate the options parsing and options checking"),
the value of reserve_{blocks,node} was only set during the first mount, along with
the corresponding mount option F2FS_MOUNT_RESERVE_{ROOT,NODE} . If the mount option
F2FS_MOUNT_RESERVE_{ROOT,NODE} was found to have been set during the mount/remount,
the previously value of reserve_{blocks,node} would also be preserved, as shown in
the code below.
if (test_opt(sbi, RESERVE_ROOT)) {
f2fs_info(sbi, "Preserve previous reserve_root=%u",
F2FS_OPTION(sbi).root_reserved_blocks);
} else {
F2FS_OPTION(sbi).root_reserved_blocks = arg;
set_opt(sbi, RESERVE_ROOT);
}
But commit d18535132523 ("f2fs: separate the options parsing and options checking")
only preserved the previous mount option; it did not preserve the previous value of
reserve_{blocks,node}. Since value of reserve_{blocks,node} value is assigned
or not depends on ctx->spec_mask, ctx->spec_mask should be alos handled in
f2fs_check_opt_consistency.
This patch will clear the corresponding ctx->spec_mask bits in f2fs_check_opt_consistency
to preserve the previously values of reserve_{blocks,node} if it already have a value.

Neither F2FS nor VFS invalidates the block device page cache, which
results in reading stale metadata. An example scenario is shown below:
Terminal A Terminal B
mount /dev/vdb /mnt/f2fs
touch mx // ino = 4
sync
dump.f2fs -i 4 /dev/vdb// block on "[Y/N]"
touch mx2 // ino = 5
sync
umount /mnt/f2fs
dump.f2fs -i 5 /dev/vdb // block addr is 0
After umount, the block device page cache is not purged, causing
`dump.f2fs -i 5 /dev/vdb` to read stale metadata and see inode 5 with
block address 0.
Btrfs has encountered a similar issue before, the solution there was to
call sync_blockdev() and invalidate_bdev() when the device is closed:
mail-archive.com/linux-btrfs@vger.kernel.org/msg54188.html
For the root user, the f2fs kernel calls sync_blockdev() on umount to
flush all cached data to disk, and f2fs-tools can release the page cache
by issuing ioctl(fd, BLKFLSBUF) when accessing the device. However,
non-root users are not permitted to drop the page cache, and may still
observe stale data.
This patch calls sync_blockdev() and invalidate_bdev() during umount to
invalidate the block device page cache, thereby preventing stale
metadata from being read.
Note that this may result in an extra sync_blockdev() call on the first
device, in both f2fs_put_super() and kill_block_super(). The second call
do nothing, as there are no dirty pages left to flush. It ensures that
non-root users do not observe stale data.

This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using
git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' |
xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/'
to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL
argument to just drop that argument.
Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.
For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate
conversion.

This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:
Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)
Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)
Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)
(where TYPE may also be *VAR)
The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

Use the kernel's resizable hash table (rhashtable) to find the
fsverity_info. This way file systems that want to support fsverity don't
have to bloat every inode in the system with an extra pointer. The
trade-off is that looking up the fsverity_info is a bit more expensive
now, but the main operations are still dominated by I/O and hashing
overhead.
The rhashtable implementations requires no external synchronization, and
the _fast versions of the APIs provide the RCU critical sections required
by the implementation. Because struct fsverity_info is only removed on
inode eviction and does not contain a reference count, there is no need
for an extended critical section to grab a reference or validate the
object state. The file open path uses rhashtable_lookup_get_insert_fast,
which can either find an existing object for the hash key or insert a
new one in a single atomic operation, so that concurrent opens never
instantiate duplicate fsverity_info structure. FS_IOC_ENABLE_VERITY must
already be synchronized by a combination of i_rwsem and file system flags
and uses rhashtable_lookup_insert_fast, which errors out on an existing
object for the hash key as an additional safety check.
Because insertion into the hash table now happens before S_VERITY is set,
fsverity just becomes a barrier and a flag check and doesn't have to look
up the fsverity_info at all, so there is only a single lookup per
->read_folio or ->readahead invocation. For btrfs there is an additional
one for each bio completion, while for ext4 and f2fs the fsverity_info
is stored in the per-I/O context and reused for the completion workqueue.

it could be runnable or preempted state for long time, during the time,
it will block high priority thread which is trying to grab the same rw

To fix such issue, let's detect thread's priority when it tries to grab

uplift the priority before it enters into critical region of lock, and
restore the priority after it leaves from critical region.

This patch add a new sysfs node in /sys/fs/f2fs/<device>/max_lock_elapsed_time.
This is a threshold, once a thread enters critical region that lock covers,
total elapsed time exceeds this threshold, f2fs will print tracepoint to dump
information of related context. This sysfs entry can be used to control the
value of threshold, by default, the value is 500 ms.

Pull f2fs updates from Jaegeuk Kim:
"This series focuses on minor clean-ups and performance optimizations
across sysfs, documentation, debugfs, tracepoints, slab allocation,
and GC. Furthermore, it resolves several corner-case bugs caught by
xfstests, as well as issues related to 16KB page support and
f2fs_enable_checkpoint.
Enhancement:
- wrap ASCII tables in literal blocks to fix LaTeX build
- optimize trace_f2fs_write_checkpoint with enums
- support to show curseg.next_blkoff in debugfs
- add a sysfs entry to show max open zones
- add fadvise tracepoint
- use global inline_xattr_slab instead of per-sb slab cache
- set default valid_thresh_ratio to 80 for zoned devices
- maintain one time GC mode is enabled during whole zoned GC cycle
Bug fix:
- ensure node page reads complete before f2fs_put_super() finishes
- do not account invalid blocks in get_left_section_blocks()
- revert summary entry count from 2048 to 512 in 16kb block support
- detect recoverable inode during dryrun of find_fsync_dnodes()
- fix age extent cache insertion skip on counter overflow
- add sanity checks before unlinking and loading inodes
- ensure minimum trim granularity accounts for all devices
- block cache/dio write during f2fs_enable_checkpoint()
- propagate error from f2fs_enable_checkpoint()
- invalidate dentry cache on failed whiteout creation
- avoid updating compression context during writeback
- avoid updating zero-sized extent in extent cache
- avoid potential deadlock"

In f2fs retry logic, we will call f2fs_io_schedule_timeout() to sleep as
uninterruptible state (waiting for IO) for a while, however, in several
paths below, we are not blocked by IO:
- f2fs_write_single_data_page() return -EAGAIN due to racing on cp_rwsem.
- f2fs_flush_device_cache() failed to submit preflush command.
- __issue_discard_cmd_range() sleeps periodically in between two in batch
discard submissions.
So, in order to reveal state of task more accurate, let's introduce
f2fs_schedule_timeout() and call it in above paths in where we are waiting
for non-IO reasons.
Then we can get real reason of uninterruptible sleep for a thread in
tracepoint, perfetto, etc.

The recent increase in the number of Segment Summary Area (SSA) entries
from 512 to 2048 was an unintentional change in logic of 16kb block
support. This commit corrects the issue.
To better utilize the space available from the erroneous 2048-entry
calculation, we are implementing a solution to share the currently
unused SSA space with neighboring segments. This enhances overall
SSA utilization without impacting the established 8MB segment size.

If there are too many background IOs during f2fs_enable_checkpoint(),
sync_inodes_sb() may be blocked for long time due to it will loop to
write dirty datas which are generated by in parallel write()
continuously.
Let's change as below to resolve this issue:
- hold cp_enable_rwsem write lock to block any cache/dio write
- decrease DEF_ENABLE_INTERVAL from 16 to 5
In addition, dump more logs during f2fs_enable_checkpoint().
Testcase:
1. fill data into filesystem until 90% usage.
2. mount -o remount,checkpoint=disable:10% /data
3. fio --rw=randwrite --bs=4kb --size=1GB --numjobs=10 \

The bug can be reproduced w/ below scripts:
- mount /dev/vdb /mnt1
- mount /dev/vdc /mnt2
- umount /mnt1
- mounnt /dev/vdb /mnt1
The reason is if we created two slab caches, named f2fs_xattr_entry-7:3
and f2fs_xattr_entry-7:7, and they have the same slab size. Actually,
slab system will only create one slab cache core structure which has
slab name of "f2fs_xattr_entry-7:3", and two slab caches share the same
structure and cache address.
So, if we destroy f2fs_xattr_entry-7:3 cache w/ cache address, it will
decrease reference count of slab cache, rather than release slab cache
entirely, since there is one more user has referenced the cache.
Then, if we try to create slab cache w/ name "f2fs_xattr_entry-7:3" again,
slab system will find that there is existed cache which has the same name
and trigger the warning.
Let's changes to use global inline_xattr_slab instead of per-sb slab cache
for fixing.

In order to avoid such deadlock, we need to avoid grabbing sb_lock in
f2fs_handle_error(), so, let's use asynchronous method instead:
- remove f2fs_handle_error() implementation
- rename f2fs_handle_error_async() to f2fs_handle_error()
- spread f2fs_handle_error()

git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/vfs/vfs
Pull vfs inode updates from Christian Brauner:
"Features:
- Hide inode->i_state behind accessors. Open-coded accesses prevent
asserting they are done correctly. One obvious aspect is locking,
but significantly more can be checked. For example it can be
detected when the code is clearing flags which are already missing,
or is setting flags when it is illegal (e.g., I_FREEING when
->i_count > 0)
- Provide accessors for ->i_state, converts all filesystems using
coccinelle and manual conversions (btrfs, ceph, smb, f2fs, gfs2,
overlayfs, nilfs2, xfs), and makes plain ->i_state access fail to
compile
- Rework I_NEW handling to operate without fences, simplifying the
code after the accessor infrastructure is in place
Cleanups:
- Move wait_on_inode() from writeback.h to fs.h
- Spell out fenced ->i_state accesses with explicit smp_wmb/smp_rmb
for clarity
- Cosmetic fixes to LRU handling
- Push list presence check into inode_io_list_del()
- Touch up predicts in __d_lookup_rcu()
- ocfs2: retire ocfs2_drop_inode() and I_WILL_FREE usage
- Assert on ->i_count in iput_final()
- Assert ->i_lock held in __iget()
Fixes:
- Add missing fences to I_NEW handling"

iput() calls the problematic routine, which does a ->i_count inc/dec
cycle. Undoing it with iput() recurses into the problem.
Note f2fs should not be playing games with the refcount to begin with,
but that will be handled later. Right now solve the immediate
regression.
